Part-whole strategies

Over the last week both MST groups have been learning a new addition strategy.  The groups are learning to split numbers to make 10 (or another tidy number).

Here are some fotobabbles from the MST 2 group, showing how they can use different strategies to add numbers together.

Today Miss Bolton gave the MST 2 group a problem to solve. Everyone shared their solutions. Miss Bolton recorded Te Winika's explanation because it was a good way of using adding to 10 to help solve a problem and it was an example of an early Stage 5 addition strategy.
